The late William J. Yang is the Principal and Founder of William J. Yang and Associates, a 35-year old consulting engineering firm located in Burbank, California. As a professional engineer he is registered not only in the State of California but also in 15 other states. He has given lectures and taught at Los Angeles Pierce College, Woodland Hills, CA and also at East Los Angeles College, East Los Angeles, CA. His many construction projects include working with such agencies as the Los Angeles Unified School District, the City and County of Los Angeles, Long Beach Transit, Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Orange County Transportation Authority, Metropolitan Transit Development Board – San Diego, the military, the federal and state government as well as for those in the private sector.

Mr. Yang has served as a Special Technical Consultant to the Royal Commission of Jubail and Yanbu – Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He is a Fellow of the Institute for the Advancement of Engineering, an Honorary Member of the Chinese American Construction Professionals, a life member of the General Alumni Association of the University of Southern California, and a life member of the Society of American Military Engineers.

As a concerned citizen he continues to be actively involved in our community. He was founding member and past president of the Asian American Architects and Engineers Association (AAAE), as well as the past president of the Mechanical Engineers Association of California (MEAC), the Asian Business Association (ABA), and the Chinese American Construction Professionals (CACP).

He has been fortunate and has had the privilege of serving as council member to numerous organizations including Caltrans Business Council, M/WBE Advisory Council to the California Department of Corrections, the California Department of General Services and was on the board of Rebuild L.A (RLA). He was elected as a delegate to the White House Conference on Small Business (1998), and also as the Southern California Delegate and Chair of Procurement, Region IX for the Implementation. Currently, he serves on the Small Business Advisory Council for the Los Angeles Unified School District, the LACMTA’S Transportation Business Advisory Council, and for Caltrans Small Business Council. Adding to this list of accomplishments, he is a board member and Chair of the Government Affairs Committee for AAAE.

Mr. Yang has been blessed in his career, as he was the recipient of numerous awards. These include the distinguishable Professional Excellence Award presented by the Chinese-American Construction Professionals in 2000, the Lifetime Achievement Award presented by the Asian American Architects & Engineers Association in 1996, the Business Owner of the Year Award presented by the Asian Business Association in 1992 and the Engineer of the Year award presented by the Asian American Architects & Engineers Association in 1985. He has also been in the Marquis “Who’s Who in the West”.
